Untitled Poem

The lapse of time and rivers is the same

Both spend their journey with a restless stream

The silent pace with which they steal away

No wealth can bribe, no prayers persuade to stay.

Alike irrevocable both when past

And a wide ocean swallows both at last.

Though each resemble each in every part,

A difference at length strikes the musing heart;

Streams never flow in vain:where streams abound,

How laughs the land with various plenty crowned!

But time, that should enrich the nobler mind

Neglected, leaves the weary waste behind.

William Cowper

I really don't have anything of my own to say, but i thought i should post. i really like this poem.

  2. yeah. i am not so tech savvy like you zac, my computer wouldn't let me figure out how to de-italisize. : )

    i like this poem because it makes me think, think and because it makes a connection for me. i mean we all understand time, but when you put it together with water, the meaning just stands out to me more. it's bringing the bananas to my tree. : ) hah.
